Take photos of damage to property and of the vehicles involved in the incident.<\/li><li>Keep a clear record of this information:<ol><li>the date, time and location of the accident<\/li><li>the extent of any injuries<\/li><li>the number of passengers involved<\/li><li>the extent of damage to the vehicle<\/li><li>your description of the accident<\/li><li>If another driver is involved:<ol><li>the licence plate and vehicle identification numbers of the other vehicles the name of the registered owner\u2019s insurance company and his\/her auto insurance policy number<\/li><li>the driver\u2019s name and driver\u2019s licence number (if the driver is not the registered owner)<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>If you or anyone else has sustained injuries, if your vehicle is not drivable, if total of damages exceeds $2,000.00 OR a criminal act has been committed, you, and any other drivers involved are required to contact the police or go to a collision reporting centre.<\/li><li>Speak with the police or your insurance company before allowing your vehicle to be towed \u2013 you want to be sure to use a reputable towing firm. If you\u2019re leaving your vehicle behind or it is being towed away, remove any valuables and personal belongings from your car<\/li><li>If you choose to make a claim, ask if your insurance provider has a list of preferred collision repair shops, review your policy and deductible, and arrange for a rental car should your insurance cover it<\/li><\/ol><h4>Note: Always contact your independent insurance broker to notify them of an accident, find out about your coverage and to get advice. Your policy premiums and rating are affected if you are at fault for the accident and a claim is made by you or any other involved party.<\/h4><h3>If You\u2019re Making a Home Insurance Claim:<\/h3><ol><li>If you\u2019re dealing with a fire or theft, or if you have any concerns with your safety, call 911 immediately and request assistance<\/li><li>Once it\u2019s safe to enter your home, make sure you take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage including turning off electricity and water sources<\/li><li>Assess the damages and create a detailed list of damages or property that has been stolen and take pictures if it\u2019s possible<\/li><li>Do not dispose of any damaged property until you\u2019ve been given the okay by your insurance company<\/li><li>Immediately contact your insurance company to report the incident and be sure to have your policy number and relevant information about the incident ready If necessary, work with your insurance provider to find temporary accommodations or make temporary repairs to make the space liveable<\/li><li>Provide any supporting documentation to your insurance provider upon request.
